exhibition of Elián Stolarsky whose work is the product of a constant
investigation (or personal-emotional search) in which the artist is related to
her generational history, linked from multiple moments that she considers her
own: with her country of birth, Uruguay, and with the origin of their immigrant
relatives (Poles, Turks, Sephardim). The title is taken from the work of the
American historian and geographer David Lowenthal.

In its inaugural exhibition, LÍQUIDO will present the most recent textile works by multidisciplinary Uruguayan artist Elián Stolarsky. Stolarsky investigates images related to war and migration duringthe 20th century, which she then translates into abstract, hand-sewn textiles. The works thus incite a slow reading of photography–different from what we are accustomed to today. ...

Despite her youth, artist Elián Stolarsky
(Montevideo, 1990) has an exceptionally productive activity, with a strong
projection in the local and international milieus. She has traveled a formative
path –that has not stopped– in which multiple inspirations mutually reinforce
each other towards plastic art discoveries, but which also has included
incursions in the areas of philosophy, literature, theater and dance...

“Coloured” refers both to the
concept as well as the technique chosen in order to address those ideas.
Throughout colouring four layers (cmyk) I create the sensation of a 3d image. A
way to bring back to life, to keep it present. Millions of hand carved lines
that obsessively draw and re draw the same faces. As remembrances that keep
appearing; that are even similar to the ones of my family story.

The Genealogy piece aims to return to the
photo an artificial three-dimensionality. The dismemberment of the elements
that build the image, allow me to understand, digest and relive that which is
neither comprehensible, nor digestible and much less capable of being
experienced again. Throughout layers I try, knowingly and uselessly, to
reconstruct the lost spatiality of memory.

The dimension of the emigrant who from Europe
brought only what could fit in their pockets. That built his life step by step
in the department of Trenta y Tres. The story of my family, as another case.
From the original photograph, from a few centimetres to an image where the
bodies are real size. Images that repeat themselves, that are multiplied.
