WHEN THE WORDS BURN IN THE FIREPLACE

“A fire burns on the hearth
And it is warm in the little house.
And the rabbi is teaching little children
The alphabet.”

A work made by parts. Like remembrances.
Collective memory
About when they stepped on solid ground, and they could understand.
Those who were lucky enough to arrive.

The dimension of the emigrant who from Europe brought only what could fit in their pockets. That built his life step by step in the department of Trenta y Tres. The story of my family, as another case. From the original photograph, from a few centimetres to an image where the bodies are real size. Images that repeat themselves, that are multiplied.

How to fill in the missing information when you try to observe it closely.
How to interpret the gaps.
How to make History from stories.
How to understand spaces, how to reconstruct them.
Fiction and reality are concepts that do not matter enough to explain the intricate folds of memory and our desire to belong.

When the words burn in the fireplace,
and the images would be
the new bodies.
The fire will be redefined,
and we will learn from other teachers, from other corpses.
From others deads.
